A CIBION researcher presented a paper about data evaluation

The scientist attended an international event in which she spoke about the latest metabolomics techniques.

María Eugenia Monge, researcher in charge of the mass spectrometry laboratory of the Bionanciencias Research Center (CIBION), gave a keynote speech during the 19th Annual Conference of the Metabolomics Society, an event held in Niagara, Canada, between the 18th and the June 22.

It should be noted that during 2022, Dr. Monge was elected by the members of the Metabolomics Society to be part of the Board of Directors. She is the first Latin American researcher to hold that position since the aforementioned organization was created in 2004.

During her presentation, the scientist referred to a paper she authored about new proposals for quality control practices in metabolomic studies by mass spectrometry, which are available in a data processing tool designed by her research group. and known as TidyMs.

Dr. Monge stated that the scientific community has not yet reached a consensus regarding how to approach strategies for data quality review in non-targeted metabolomics based on liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS). This is a relevant aspect that remains a challenge, despite the wide variety of tools available for data processing.

In this framework, the objective of her study was to provide a model to describe the sources of variation in LC-MS-based untargeted metabolomics measurements and to provide new tools to review the quality of the data obtained and perform a curing scheme.

About Metabolomics Society

It is a renowned international organization, with more than 1,000 members in more than 40 countries around the world, which is dedicated to creating spaces for research and scientific exchange within the field of metabolomics. In this way, it creates an enriching interdisciplinary and collaborative environment to catalyze collaborations between researchers. As a result, best practices in analysis, computing and data analysis are generated. Dr. Monge is also a founding member of LAMPS (https://lamps-network.org/), whose society has been an international affiliate of the Metabolomics Society since 2021.
