Dr. María Eugenia Monge, head of the Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry group at CIBION, was appointed vice president of the Argentinean Mass Spectrometry Society (SAEM). Her designation was made during the IV Mass Spectrometry Argentinean Conference (IV CAEM) that was held in San Luis on October 26-28.
The main objective of the event was to promote the exchange of information, experiences and scientific & technological entailment in the field of mass spectrometry, including fundamentals and the instrumental development.
The meeting was organized by SAEM, Instituto de Química de San Luis (INQUISAL), CONICET and Facultad de Química, Bioquímica y Farmacia from Universidad Nacional de San Luis.
Dr. Monge traveled with Dr. Mariela Videla, Mariela García, Nicolás Zabalegui and Maximilian Rey, all of them members of her researching group in CIBION as well as with Dr. Malena Manzi and Dr. Manuela Martinefsky, who are former postdocs from Dr. Monge’s team and currently associate researchers with the advising and co-advising of Dr. Monge, respectively. During the Conference, Dr, Martinefski presented results from a research work entitled "Development and validation of a LC-APCI-MS/MS-based method for the simultaneous quantitation of 8 serum steroids with relevance in pediatric endocrinology". This research was conducted between CIBION and CEDIE CONICET Institutes. As a result, they were recognized with an award during the IV CAEM. “Thank you for the award that was given to us during the IV Mass Spectrometry Argentinean Conference for our joint research. I am proud of Dr. Manuela Marinefki”, Monge said.
Recognized scientists from Argentina and other countries presented results from their research projects along the Conference. Some of the most distinguished international plenary lectures were given by Dr. Richard A. Yost (University of Florida, USA), Dr. Paulo Costa Carvalho (Laboratory for Structural and Computational Proteomics. Carlos Chagas Institute, Fiocruz, Brazil), Dr. Horacio Heinzen (Universidad de la República, Uruguay), Dr. Eloisa Dutra Caldas (Universidad de Brasilia, Brazil) and Dr. Facundo Fernández (Georgia Institute of Technology, USA).
Plenary lectures by Argentinean researchers were provided by Dr. María Eugenia Monge, Dr. Silvia Moreno (professor in FCEN-UBA and CONICET research staff), Dr. Pablo Pacheco (researcher and professor in INQUISAL), Dr. Ricardo Furlan (professor in UNR and CONICET research staff), and Dr. Rosa Erra-Balsells (professor in FCEN-UBA and CONICET research staff) who was recognized for her scientific career and contributions in the field of Mass Spectrometry with the SAEM award 2022.
About the SAEM
SAEM was born with the purpose of promoting the development of mass spectrometry in Argentina, and to facilitate communication among researchers in the local community.
