Controlling sub- and intermolecular setscrews: From new phosphorescent complexes to applications in optoelectronics, functional microscopy and multimodal imaging
By finding sub- and intermolecular setscrews with the aid of (TD)DFT, STM and STS, we managed to tune the luminescence of green Pt(II) complexes into the deep-blue and into the deep-red regions of the visible electromagnetic spectrum. Design criteria and defined synthetic strategies will be addressed regarding the realization of such photofunctional coordination compounds. Applications of such tailored excited triplet states in optoelectronics, functional microscopy and multimodal imaging will be discussed in the context of controlled aggregation phenomena, frontier orbitals and hybridization at metallic interfaces.
